Moldova: TRM Initiated Discussion Regarding Eurovision 2026 Participation

Last January, Moldova withdrew from Eurovision 2025
The main reason seems rooted in a decrease in the public interest, as well as in the quality of the submitted songs, and economic challenges.

The withdrawal was made during the preparations for Eurovision 2025, where 12 artists passed the auditions and were meant to participate in the national final.

Corneliu Durnescu, The director of TRM said:

The decision was not an easy one, but necessary in the current context. This year’s national selection highlighted certain challenges, including a decrease in public interest and the overall quality of the pieces and artistic performances. This fact generated a negative perception among specialists and the public, underlining the need for a substantial reform in the selection process,

On September 30th, Moldovan broadcaster TRM organized an open discussion with representatives of RTM, music producers, singers, and songwriters.

The main topics were: Organization of the national selection, promotion strategies, and participants’ support.
However, Moldova still hasn’t decided whether it will take part in Eurovision 2026

Natalia Barbu represented Moldova in Eurovision 2024
She performed “In The Middle”, and didn’t qualify for the final:

Eurovision 2026 will be held in Vienna, Austria, on May 12th, 14th, and 16th, 2026.
